On advent, on peace

My most common prayer over the past couple of years has been for peace. Recently, I feel I don’t really know how to pray or what to ask for, and so, I ask for peace. On repeat.

Peace is not some zen state.

Peace, in this season, is the reassurance that all will be made right.

It’s very close to how I define hope. In fact, I think peace is rooted in hope.

Peace doesn’t end the darkness, but it seems to offer a raft in the midst of the storm. We can be fully present to the heavy of life, while still experiencing a deep peace.

If hope is the belief all will be made right, peace is the way of being that comes from hope.

May we find peace as we lean into hope.
