On words (take 1)
Once, when I was working at a climbing gym, I was belaying a group of kids when I over heard a conversation between two of the kids.
One child asked the other, “did you make it to the top?”
The other responded, “not yet.”
Here’s the thing, the kid who responded “not yet” was in the process of taking off his harness. He was finished climbing for the day, and still his response was “not yet”.
That kid gets something most of miss.
He sees more than what is just in front of him. He knows there is so much more to come.
He knows he is not finished.
He could have said “no” and that would have been equally true. But “not yet” means there is story left to be told.
He has not given up, but rather see this as a beginning and an opportunity to continue to grow.
And he used his words to reinforce it.
Don’t let your current reality keep you from seeing what is possible. And when in doubt live in the hope of “not yet.”
