On time

By nature I am a planner, well actually I am a dreamer but I think most people would describe me as a planner.

I spend a lot of time thinking about the future and getting excited for what is to come, and from that a plan often follows. But I am a dreamer first and foremost.

In truth, the planning often gets in the way of the dreaming. A dream is great, but as soon as you add a plan the constraints of reality start taking over.

But without a plan a dream remains an idea. The plan makes it a reality.

One of the most common constraints, I find, is time. I have a chronic complaint around time. There just isn’t quite enough of it.

At times, this complaint has crippled me. It has kept me from beginning. It kills the dream. Or at least keeps it a dream rather than reality.

This complaint or belief - there isn’t enough time - causes me to play it safe and live a smaller life.

And I don’t think I am alone here.

What would my life look like if there was enough time? What dreams would I live out? What moves would I make? What if I lived life as if there was all the time in the world?

When the weight of time settles in I have found peace in this - there is more than enough time

It’s a lesson I learned in university when it didn’t seem to matter how much I put off writing that paper, I somehow always got it done by the deadline. When the next paper came and the anxiety started to creep in I would remind myself “there always seems to be enough time.” And it seemed to ease some stress. And it continues to do so.

So what would I want little Julianne to know? I would want her to know she has more than enough time to experience all life has to offer. There is more than enough time to live out your dreams and the ones you don’t even know about yet. Don’t let your plans get in the way of your dreams, but don’t be afraid of the plan either.

There is more than enough time.
